Summary:
Instagram is an anti-segregative space, which means that users have the same conditions; because there is a fixity in places. However, it is through the same use, that a transition from the universal to the particular is occasioned. The algorithm is in charge of establishing personalized segregations. The objective is to investigate how algorithmic functioning produces segregative practices in users. Segregation is an unnoticed movement, it consists of excluding the strange, because it does not coincide with preferences. But at the same time an appropriation of self-interests develops. However, an algorithm needs user data, to then show images that are articulated to the profile preference. The methodology includes a bibliographic analysis of Lacanian Psychoanalysis, concepts such as: jouissance, footstool and the Imaginary. On the other hand, the philosophy of technology made it possible to approach the algorithm and sociological contributions were taken to reflect on the digital revolution.
The main result is that Instagram, through the algorithm, develops a segregated account. This includes aspects where the user feels identified with what he is seeing. At the same time, the Other is excluded from oneself and will not appear in the account.
