Summary:
In this writing we propose to take as a trigger chapter 6 of the second season of the series "New Amsterdam", entitled: "Righteous right hand".
In it, several women are injured when the van in which they were traveling to a religious gathering suffers an accident. Among them is Shauntee, a teenager with Down Syndrome who - upon arriving at the hospital and being checked for her injuries - finds out that she is pregnant and expresses the desire for an abortion.
The conflict emerges in relation to Shauntee’s will and her legal guardian, Kaye, who, based on her religious belief, opposes the arrest of the pregnancy.
Based on the dilemma that this scene raises, an analysis will be carried out on sexuality in people with disabilities and their autonomy in making decisions about their own body and respecting their will.
